The Archive of Golden Age Romance Comics
GeorgeOnline tweeted about this wonderful archive this morning, created by a student, Jenny Miller, in his class a couple of years ago. It’s the best thing going for old romance comic scans.
Her blog, Heck’s Kitchen, is fun too. Thanks, George!
Google Notebook for course plan?
I’ve used the Notebook in the past, but I never really found a good use for it. But today I’m considering it as a way to post the class plan online; you know, that part of the syllabus that the administration likes to believe that we’re content-centered enough to produce and then never deviate from, that hypothetical “this-is-what-will-get-done-in-class-on-April-3rd” thing that no good writing teacher could map as adequately as a content-delivery teacher could. I mean, tell a piano teacher that she’ll have to say what she’ll have a student do on a particular day three months from now.
But I digress. Google Notebook exports to Reader, which we’ll be using, and Documents, which we’ll be using, and it even exports as an html page, which is the one I like best.
Here’s a link to the exported messing around that I did this morning.
The thing that I was surprised by is that you can’t actually share the Notebook itself except as a collaborative document, and as into social networking as I am, that goes too far for me.
If anyone else is doing this already, drop me a line.
Exercising your demons
I’m on one of those recycle list servs — if you don’t know about them, you should search for them in your area — where people offer things they’re about to throw away and people ask for things that they need (search Yahoo lists).
So a couple of days ago, a mail came through with this subject line:
“Wanted any exorcise equipment”
I read the email to find out that this lady has lost 80 pounds and still has 25 more to go, but it’s really hard to get this last bit off so she needs some equipment to help her exorcise.
I always knew that losing weight was tough, but it explains a lot if being overweight is possession-related.
Language difficult is English.
New teaching blog; WebCT course
Several new things –
I’ve started a new teaching resources weblog at
http://www.velvethedgehog.com/deanya/teaching/
I needed a place to collect resources, and blogs are really working for me, so there we go.
Taking a WebCT course tomorrow; even though I’ve been using Blackboard and CT for maybe 8 years now, I have to take a course to be “certified” to teach in it (I am also using a WebCT environment with my classes this semester…). So that’s what I’ll be doing with my Friday tomorrow instead of grading, etc. Now if I could only have gotten some development money for doing it. Will I get a certificate? Will it be suitable for framing?
Twain killed Shakespeare…
This is a piece by Mark Twain from his autobiography explaining why he does not believe that Shakespeare actually wrote the works attributed to him. Some really intriguing points and Twain’s fantastic irony and sarcasm.
An interesting read on authorship and attribution. I wish that Twain had had access to Foucault…
